history

In 1983 the filmmaker and producer Franz Xaver Gernstl founded the production company Megaherz GmbH together with cameraman Hans Peter Fischer . The first joint production was the Gernstl series of reports , which has now been awarded the Grimme Prize . The children's knowledge programs Willi wills Wissen , Checker Can , Checker Tobi and Checker Julian followed, among others . From 1997 to 2004 a loose series of semi-documentary television films was produced for the Bavarian and West German radio: Under the title Denk ich an Deutschland ... a total of twelve documentaries were released, including Mr. Wichmann from the CDU by Andreas Dresen and We forgot to return from Fatih Akin .

In addition to reports, series and documentaries for television and cinema, megaherz also produces corporate films.

In 2001 the company We Forgot to Return produced the first documentary by Fatih Akın , who was later nominated for an Oscar .

In 2005 megaherz co-produced the first German-language cinema film as a co-producer with Wholetrain , which depicts the subject of graffiti with a documentary background.

Megaherz portrayed Cleo Kretschmer and Alfons Schuhbeck for the BR series ' Lebenslinien' . For the series Heads in Bavaria on Bavarian TV, megaherz portrayed the life of cabaret artist Dieter Hildebrandt , Eckart Witzigmann , Lothar-Günther Buchheim , media manager Hans R. Since 2009 megaherz has been producing (in co-production with moviepool) the television program Landfrauenküche on behalf of BR Fernsehen.

In 2009 the go-ahead was given for the West German edition of the cooking country women: the TV series “Land & Lecker”, produced by moviepool and megaherz for WDR, celebrated its TV premiere on September 2, 2009.

In 2011, the adaptation of the rural women format for the SWR followed with “Lecker beim Land”.

Another megaherz production for SWR is the series “Mein Garten, Dein Garten”, which has been in production since 2016.

In cooperation with Zero One, the 24-hour television documentary 24h Bayern - Ein Tag Heimat about Bavaria and its residents was created in 2016/2017 . Produced on behalf of BR Fernsehen, the documentary reports in real time about the everyday life of 80 protagonists from various professions, social classes, religions and ethnicities who are representative of the population in the Free State.

Megaherz is also active for SuperRTL: the serial formats “Animal Travel” (2014, 20 episodes) and “Einfach Tierisch” (2016 and 2017, 40 episodes) provide interesting information about the animal world for children - and adults.
