The Biermösl Blosn was a Bavarian music and cabaret group that was founded in 1976 by the brothers Hans (* 1953), Christoph (* 1959) and Michael Well (* 1958). The Biermösel (high German: Beerenmoos) is part of the Haspelmoors in the Fürstenfeldbruck district . Blosn (bubble) is a Bavarian term for clique, group.

The group combined Bavarian folk music ( Stubnmusi ) and dialect with political and satirical texts and can therefore be counted as part of the so-called new folk music . On January 18th, 2012 the group gave their last concert in Fürth .

Band history

The three members of the Biermösl Blosn come from the 17-member family of the schoolmaster Hermann Well (1913–1996) and his wife Gertraud (née Effinger, 1919–2015) from the village of Günzlhofen near Fürstenfeldbruck .

  • Christoph Well (called Stofferl , born December 3, 1959 in Günzlhofen ) studied trumpet and was solo trumpeter with the Munich Philharmonic and later concert harpist.
  • Michael Well (born October 10, 1958 in Günzlhofen) studied social studies and was responsible for organizing the group.
  • Hans Well (born May 1, 1953 in Willprechtszell ), who studied German and history, was responsible for the group's texts.

The great role model for the three brothers is Kraudn Sepp (1896–1977) from Isarwinkel . In 1976 they began performing folk music, as they had previously done under the guidance of their father. You often worked with Gerhard Polt and occasionally appeared on the ARD program windshield wiper . Three of her sisters - Moni, Vroni and Burgi - founded the Bavarian folk music and cabaret group Die Wellküren based on their model in 1986 . Another music project from the Well family was the Well-Buam formation , which has set itself the task of reviving authentic Bavarian folk (dance) music and in which Christoph and Michael Well participated.

The music of the Biermösl Blosn stands out u. a. through the sometimes ironic integration of other musical styles such as Celtic folklore, unusual instrumentation such as bagpipes , alphorn , harp or didgeridoo , but above all through biting satirical-political or socially critical texts (for example, Cardinal Josef Ratzinger nicknamed them Alpine- Ayatollah ), which are often based on traditional Bavarian rhyming and singing styles ( Gstanzl ) and are performed in dialect .

The group gained notoriety in 1979 after the New Year's Eve program "Scherz, Satire und Kleinkunst" broadcast by Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation when their song "Gott mit dir du Land der Baywa" was broadcast immediately before the New Year's speech by then Bavarian Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss. After this episode, the Biermöslblosn did not appear on Bayerischer Rundfunk for the next fifteen years. It gained nationwide notoriety when in 1981 - "accidentally" invited to the traditional tapping of the Maibock in Munich's Hofbräuhaus - the ruling party CSU in connection with the mass arrest of Nuremberg in front of the assembled ministers and state parliament members and thus caused a political scandal. In 1981 the group received the German Cabaret Prize in Mainz . In Bavaria in 1985 and 1996, despite clear nominations by the respective jury, corresponding awards were refused.

The Well brothers have been on friendly terms with the members of the band Die Toten Hosen since they took part in the Anti-WAAhnsinns festival . In 1990 they worked together with Gerhard Polt on the successful album On the crusade into the happiness of the dead pants. In 1997 the special price Reif & Bekloppt of the Prix Pantheon followed , in 1999 the Bavarian Cabaret Award in the category music cabaret .

The 1999 Bavarian-wide dispute about the establishment of a branch of the McDonald’s group at the motorway service station on the scenic Irschenberg in Upper Bavaria inspired the group to sing the song of the Irschenberg . In 2001, a song by the group caused another scandal. The “BayWa song”, a satirical corruption of the Bavarian hymn and the BayWa company (text: “God with you, you land of BayWa…”) was put into a songbook for secondary school students in eighth grade by a school book publisher. The books that had already been printed were immediately pulped again on the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs .

Also, the Bayerische Rundfunk answered the political commitment of the musicians - as against the reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf - with a temporary transmission boycott. In the meantime, however, the political climate in Bavarian radio has changed somewhat, and so the station dedicated its own 45-minute TV program to the group in 2004 as part of the Alpenrock series .

In 2005, the group was at the dance and folk festival TFF.Rudolstadt the World Music Award Ruth awarded. At the end of 2005 they toured with Die Toten Hosen and with Gerhard Polt through various theaters and opera houses and played the program Abvent (sic) under the direction of Hanns Christian Müller . In 2007 they received the Great Karl Valentin Prize together with Gerhard Polt in Munich and in 2008 they were awarded the Göttingen Elk .

The last performance took place on January 18, 2012. The group then broke up. Hans Well cited differences of opinion about the future direction as the reason for the separation. In addition, there are difficulties in reacting to the changed political framework conditions with songs, such as the nuclear phase-out and the CSU is no longer "what it once was". He and the cabaret artist Dieter Hildebrandt thought about joint appearances.

After the dissolution

Wellbrüder aus'm Biermoos 2014 at the song festival at Waldeck Castle

Christoph and Michael Well started in February 2012 in the Münchner Kammerspiele with the "house music evening" Be fine, stay together   under Franz Wittenbrink's direction, together with their sisters, the Wellküren group , brother Karl, their mother and (in a short appearance) Gerhard Polt . In the 2015/16 seasons, the Well brothers performed with Gerhard Polt in his "play" Ekzem Homo   at the Munich Kammerspiele.

Hans Well published the biography 35 Years of Biermösl Blosn on April 9, 2013 in Verlag Antje Kunstmann . A biography of Biermösl Blosn from the perspective of Christoph and Michael Well under the title Biermösl Blosn: Tokio - Kapstadt - Hausen was published by Kein & Aber, also in April 2013.

Christoph, Michael and Karl Well have been performing under the name Wellbrüder aus'm Biermoos since 2013, sometimes together with Gerhard Polt .

The eldest brother Hans has been performing as Hans Well & Wellbappn together with his children Sarah, Tabea and Jonas Well since August 2012 . In 2015 you were awarded the “Unterföhringer Mohr” audience award.

reception

In 2011, the journalist Annette Ramelsberger described the work of the Biermösl Blosn in the Süddeutsche Zeitung as "a thorn in the flesh of the authorities, the anarchic soul of the people" and as a musical undoing of the "expropriation of the term home by the CSU step by step, song by song" . You have "replaced the caricature of yodelling Bavaria with razor-sharp wit and intelligent malice", which is a great merit of this group. Since the old enemy images have now "crumbled", it would now be "logical that the Biermösl Blosn split up" because they had "won". She "played against Wackersdorf , against the irresponsible at Bayerische Landesbank and against those responsible in the government" and was "the most effective opposition for years". She “helped to change the country.” Now she is no longer a “scratchy outsider, but a pampered cultural asset” in Bavaria and is “loved by everyone” and “no longer a fuss.” One could therefore also say “Mission accomplished.”

In 2003, the Warsteiner Brewery initially reacted without humor to an ironic Gstanzl from Biermösl Blosn about their beer. At the end of a publicly presented correspondence with also ridiculous text alternatives, the brewery based in North Rhine-Westphalia gave in to the cabaret group with an invitation to convince themselves of the quality of their beer.
