The Ludwig Thoma Medal of the City of Munich in Gold was an award that the City of Munich bestowed from 1967 to 1989 in honor of the writer Ludwig Thoma .

The medal was donated in 1966 by the writer Hans Hellmut Kirst (1914–1989) and was first awarded in 1967.

The award was stopped in 1990 after Ludwig Thomas became aware of his national-conservative stance, in particular his articles with anti-Semitic slogans and anti-socialist polemics that had appeared in the Miesbacher Anzeiger in the last months of his life .
