Bernhard Gajek

Bernhard Gajek (* 1929 in Offenburg ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

He studied German, philosophy and phonetics in Freiburg im Breisgau , Hamburg and Munich . After receiving his doctorate in Munich in 1959 on Johann Georg Hamann , he was a scientific tutor at the University of Munich from 1958 to 1962 . From 1962 to 1966 he was curator at the Free German Hochstift and has a teaching position at Goethe University . After completing his habilitation in 1969 through Clemens Brentano at the University of Heidelberg , he was a university lecturer there (1969–1971). After substituting professorships in Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg . Since 1971 he has been a full professor of German Philology (modern German literature) at the University of Regensburg . He teaches at universities in Denmark, France, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, USA. He was the organizer of the International Hamann Colloquium since 1975. He was a member of the Advisory Board for the German Foreign Dictionary 1972–1983. In 1976 he founded and directed the Sulzbach-Rosenberg Literature Archives (1976–1991: 2nd chairman, 1991–1994 1st chairman). He retired on April 1, 1994. Since 1999 he has been a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków.
