Erwin Wedel

Erwin Wedel (born April 9, 1926 in Neuliebental near Odessa ; † December 8, 2018 ) was a German Slavist .

Life

Wedel received his doctorate in 1957 at the University of Munich and completed his habilitation there in 1968. In the same year he was appointed to the chair for Slavic Philology at the University of Regensburg , which he held until his retirement in 1994. In 1992 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Odessa .

Wedel dealt primarily with Slavic literature from the 18th to the 20th century and Russian and Ukrainian lexicography .
