Franziska Bilek

Franziska Bilek (born October 29, 1906 in Munich ; † November 11, 1991 there ) was a German draftsman , caricaturist , illustrator and writer .

Life and accomplishments

Bilek attended the State School of Applied Arts in Munich and studied at the Munich Art Academy . Her first drawings appeared in the magazine Jugend , later in the Münchner Abendblatt .

Among other things, she worked for the Münchner Neuesten Nachrichten , from 1936 to 1944 for the Simplicissimus , where she received a job thanks to Olaf Gulbransson's advocacy , from 1946 to 1950 for the Simpl and from 1952 for the Münchner Abendzeitung . She became particularly well-known for her drawings around the figure of Mr. Hirnbeiß , with which she commented on daily events in Munich since 1961. In addition, she illustrated numerous books, including the collected works of Karl Valentin . In 1950 she published the correspondence with Olaf Gulbransson under the title Lieber Olaf - Liebe Franziska , which was illustrated by both.

Awards

She received several awards for her work, including the Ludwig Thoma Medal in 1971 , the Ernst Hoferichter Prize in 1979 and the Bavarian Poet Thaler in 1982 . She is buried in the urn hall at the Nordfriedhof in Munich (R-101). Bilek's estate is in the German Art Archive of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg. The Franziska-Bilek-Weg in Munich's Westend was named after her in 2005.
