The simpl . Art Caricature Criticism was the second satirical magazine in the American zone of Germany's occupation after World War II .

It was first published under US license on March 28, 1946 by W. E. Freitag Verlag , Munich . The publisher was Willi Ernst Freitag, editor-in-chief Markus Schrimpf (son of the painter Georg Schrimpf and the painter Maria Uhden ).

In terms of appearance (format, full-page caricatures, etc.), the paper consciously kept the tradition of simplicissimus . Like the model in its early years, the political orientation was decidedly anti-fascist , anti-militarist and anti-nationalist.

Employees of the first edition were u. a. Henry Meyer-Brockmann , Rudolf Schlichter , Otto Dix and Erich Kästner . Gradually employees of the old Simplicissimus joined forces , such as Olaf Gulbransson , Otto Nückel , Franziska Bilek , Rudolf Kriesch and others. a., added, which strengthened the political stance. Occasional employees included Josef Hegenbarth , Rudolf Schlichter Bele Bachem and Max Radler . The texts were mainly from Heinz Hartwig , E. Horn , W. F. Kloeck and Hans Reimann . Even Walter Kolbenhoff published several posts. In June 1949 Ernst Maria Lang added to the group of main cartoonists.

For economic reasons, Der Simpl stopped appearing in March 1950.
