Max Kruse (born November 19, 1921 in Kösen ; † September 4, 2015 in Penzberg ) was a German writer and children's book author .

Life

Max Kruse was born in 1921 as the youngest son of seven children of the sculptor Max Kruse and the doll artist Käthe Kruse . He briefly attended the Odenwald School in Ober-Hambach , but was exempt from regular school lessons for a long time due to illness and later from military service for the same reason.

After graduating from high school in Weimar, he briefly studied philosophy and business administration at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena until it closed during the war. After the Second World War, he rebuilt the maternal company Käthe-Kruse-Puppen , which had been expropriated in the GDR , in the Federal Republic of Germany . He then worked as a copywriter and later as a freelance writer. Max Kruse married Mechthild Heilner immediately after the war. In 1952 a son was born who had a fatal accident on a bicycle in April 1968. In 1954 a daughter was born. Kruse was a member of the PEN Center Germany .

In addition to the children's book series about Urmel and Der Löwe ist los , he wrote many more, including The Morning Star , Don Blech , In the wide Land of Time and Lord Butterfly Shirt , novels for young people, poems and a large number of travel reports. Kruse was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation . The book Answers from the Future , published in 2008, is a work critical of religion . The book is a new edition of the book En (t) dzauberung published in 2007 under the pseudonym Friedhelm Schenitz. Autumn of the religious age .

Several of his books were filmed by the Augsburger Puppenkiste , such as his lion and Urmels series. Manfred Jenning wrote the scripts for it .

In 2013 he left his Urmel to the Giordano Bruno Foundation for the project “Evokids - Evolution in Elementary School” and designed a Urmel book on the subject of evolution entitled “Urmel rushes through time”.

Kruse lived in Untermaxkron, a district of Penzberg in Upper Bavaria , since 1986 . He was married to Shaofang Kruse for the third time.

Penzberg held the Max Kruse Days in his honor every year and announced the Penzberger Urmel Prize .

Max Kruse died on September 4, 2015 at the age of 93 in his home town.
