Wieland Freund (* 1969 near Paderborn ) is a German journalist , literary critic , author and translator .

Life

Wieland Freund was born in 1969 to Winfried Freund . He studied German and English . Since 2010 he has worked as an editor in the literature section of the daily newspaper Die Welt . In addition to his journalistic work, Freund writes books for children and young people. For Lisa's book and for Gespensterlied he received the Bavarian Art Prize and for Krakonos 2018 the Pied Piper Literature Prize ; for Nemi and Hehmann he was awarded the Ver.di Literature Prize Berlin-Brandenburg for 2019.

His successful completion of a last children's book by Michael Ende , which originally only comprised three opening chapters, caused a sensation , who died before he could complete the stalled book project. The reviewer for Deutschlandfunk Kultur described that “there is no noticeable break between the two parts”.

Freund is married and has three children. He lives with his family in Berlin .
