The South Bridge ( Ukrainian Південний міст / Piwdennyj Mist , Russian Южный мост / Juschny Most ) is a cable-stayed bridge over the Dnieper in the south of the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The combined highway and railway bridge is the longest bridge in Ukraine with a length of 1260 m.
The chief engineer of the bridge, which opened on December 25, 1990, was the Kiev architect Heorhij Fuks .
The bridge has 6 lanes for road traffic ( M 03 / E 40 ) and two tracks for the Kiev metro , which first crossed the bridge in 1992. The south bridge is 41 m wide, the reinforced concrete mast is 110 m high and the total height is 133 m. The cost of construction was 112 million Soviet rubles, or about $ 200 million.
