Heorhij Boryssowytsch Fuks (born December 3, 1927 in Kiev ; † March 10, 2008 ibid) was a Ukrainian civil engineer and a specialist in bridge construction .

Life

Fuks studied at the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture in 1949, and from 1951 worked at the Kiev branch of the State Institute for the Study and Design of Streets Ukrdorproekt. In 1983 he received his doctorate with the theme of development, testing and introduction of new advanced design of highway and city bridges of large spans for Ph.D.

He taught at the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture , published 40 publications as an author and was the developer of 16 inventions in the field of bridge construction. Fuks was chief project engineer of many large bridges in the Soviet Union , including the island bridge over the Daugava in Riga and the following bridges over the Dnepr in Kiev: Metro Bridge (Kiev) (opened 1965), North Bridge (opened 1976), South Bridge (opened 1990) and the 1993 Podilbrücke that was started and is still under construction today. Fuks died in his hometown in 2008 and was buried in the Baikowe Cemetery (section number 33).

Awards

Heorhij Fuks was awarded the State Prize of the USSR and in 1991 the honorary title “Honored Builder of Ukraine”.
