Christoph Bochinger

Christoph Bochinger (born May 4, 1959 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German religious scholar .

Life

Bochinger studied Protestant theology and religious studies from 1979 to 1986 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing his master's degree, he was an assistant at the Institute for Missionary and Religious Studies. In 1993 he received his doctorate. In 1996 he completed his habilitation with a grant from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation .

From 1997 to 2003 he was professor for religious socialization and adult education at the University of Bayreuth . In 2002/03 he was visiting professor for religious studies at the University of Zurich . In 2003 he became a professor for religious studies with special focus on contemporary religious culture at the University of Bayreuth.

He was vice dean and member of the Senate, and has been a member of the University Council of Bayreuth University since 2013. Since 1998 he has also been the executive director of the Institute for Research into Contemporary Religious Culture.

In addition, he is chairman of the German Association for Religious Studies . He was co-editor of the Bayreuth Contributions to Research on Religions and the Bayreuth Contributions to Research on Contemporary Religious Culture . Since 2005 he has been editor of the Religionswissenschaft heute series at Kohlhammer Verlag . In 2010 he became a member of the editorial board of Ilahiyat Studies .
