The Große Karl Valentin Prize is an undoped prize that is awarded at irregular intervals. The award winners should " be able to show outstanding artistic achievements in succession to Valentine or [...] have made a special contribution to Valentine's ingenious personality and his work". The award goes back to an initiative of the Munich writer and Valentin biographer Alfons Schweiggert , which he started on the occasion of the comedian's 125th birthday in 2007.

The award is based on the humor of the Munich comedian, because it consists of absolutely nothing.

The prize was awarded to Gerhard Polt and Biermösl Blosn for the first time on February 18, 2007 in the Volkstheater in Munich . The Mayor of Munich Christian Ude acted as laudator .

On February 14, 2010, Fredl Fesl received the award from his predecessors. So that he “doesn't have to go home empty-handed”, Gerhard Polt presented him with a drum that turned out to be an old rusted door lock after unpacking. The granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Karl Valentin were present as well-wishers. The award ceremony took place again in the Volkstheater in Munich.

The winner of the 2012 award is Helge Schneider . It was awarded on January 22, 2012 in Munich, again at the Volkstheater.

Award winner 2017

On March 19, 2017, the prize was awarded for the fourth time to Sigi Zimmigart, also in the Munich Volkstheater. The laudation was given by the cabaret artist Luise Kinseher , who incorporated excerpts from her master's thesis from 1994 on the cabaret artist. The more than three-hour event was musically framed by the Far Eastern duo Coconami with Japanese-Bavarian song interpretations, the Oberammergau brass band Kofelgschroa and the Upper Palatinate original peasant fives .

On July 4, 2019, the Culture Committee of the Munich City Council decided that the Great Karl Valentin Prize, founded in 2007, with the approval of the prize founder Alfons Schweiggert, the Valentin-Karlstadt-Gesellschaft and the Valentin-Karlstadt-Förderverein Saubande under the expanded name of Großer Valentin-Karlstadt -Price will continue as urban price.
