Kofelgschroa is one of Oberammergau originating brass music - group in the new folk music . The band name is derived from Oberammergau's local mountain Kofel and from the Bavarian Gschroa (shouting).

history

The group was founded in 2007 as "Kofelmusi" and initially played traditional folk music. After the band took a break in 2010 and split up temporarily, they were signed by the Munich label Trikont , which also publishes Attwenger . In 2012 the debut album was released under the same name, on which Micha Acher from The Notwist was involved as a producer. The musicians still see themselves as “leisure musicians with a lot of free time”, but increasingly also attend national concerts. On3 describes them as committed street musicians who “ combine their traditional background with a punk attitude”. According to their own statements, they are not a political band, but according to Welt Online they support “art campaigns against the glacier melt ” or “demonstrate against right-wing extremist activities in the Oberland”, such as at the SchallKnall music festival in Murnau .

In 2014 the documentary Kofelgschroa came out. Free. Be. Want filmmaker Barbara Weber to the movies. In six years of filming, she shows the thinking and development of the group.

In September 2015, Kofelgschroa opened the Hotel Kovèl in Oberammergau in the now outdated former house of the writer Josef Ruederer . However, it is not an actual hotel. The band uses it as a rehearsal room and to “receive like-minded people”.

Awarding of the Karl Valentin Prize to Sigi Zimmigart

On March 19, 2017, they helped create the musical framework program on the occasion of the awarding of the Great Karl Valentin Prize to Sigi Zimmigart in the Munich Volkstheater .

Dissolution phenomena

On February 27, 2018, the band announced the departure of the founding members Michael and Martin von Mücke after Michael had a horse accident in 2017 and Martin wanted to go back to his job. The official last concert date with the original line-up was March 24, 2018. Michael von Mücke played in the band until the summer break of 2018, and Maria Hafner has been on tour on the viola as a guest musician since September . Theresa Loibl plays as a substitute on the tuba . On October 22, 2018, the group announced on Facebook that they would take a creative break in 2019 and no longer play concerts. On October 25, 2018, the news followed that Maxi Pongratz would continue solo, "as long as Kofelgschroa is asleep".

style

In the pieces of the band, which emerged from the local folk music scene, the tuba is the supporting and formative instrument, above it the accordion often joins as a filling and rhythmic carpet , over which guitar and vocals, tenor horn solos or sometimes mantra-like repeated texts in sometimes polyphonic vocals lay. The rhythms are often rolling seven-eighth bars. Their music is characterized by the Bavarian dialect of Oberammergau and, according to the Tagesspiegel, the " Valentinesque texts". They said themselves about their pieces: “We like to play alternating bars, minor chords and long pieces. We try to unite the melancholy, the tiredness as well as the feeling of joy and gratitude in our pieces and in our appearance ”.
