Josef Ruederer
Josef Anton Heinrich Ruederer (born October 15, 1861 in Munich ; † October 20, 1915 there ) was a German writer .
Life
Ruederes father owned a banking business in Munich, was a co-founder and major shareholder of the Löwen Brewery as well as Portuguese consul general and thus belonged to the upper middle class of the city. His mother came from a wealthy family of brewers. After completing high school, Josef Ruederer did an internship at a bank, then he studied history in Berlin and received his doctorate. phil. 1888. Due to a failed patent case , he lost a large part of his fortune and moved to Farchant near Garmisch . He turned to writing and returned to Munich. He belonged to the environment of the Munich Secession and had contacts to the magazine Die Gesellschaft . In 1901 he was co-founder of the cabaret Die Elf Scharfrichter .
In the novels and comedies before the First World War , he denounced the moral decay in the city, the corruption, hypocrisy and the "snacks" of Upper Bavaria . He thus went on a confrontation with Ludwig Thoma , who described him as a " townspeople far removed from everything rural ", who reproduced even the simplest things incorrectly and imperfectly.
During the World War Ruederer was critical of the German cause and began a multi-volume novel, the first part of which he completed in 1915 shortly before his death. It was published in 1916 as The Awakening , and again in 1962 as White-Blue Forty-Eight . In this novel he describes the development of Munich at the time of King Ludwig I.
