Alfons Beck (* 2. May 1949 as Alfons Karg in Traunstein ) is a German chef , cookbook - author , restaurateur , TV chef and entrepreneur .

Professional background

Schuhbeck grew up in Chiemgau in Upper Bavaria and initially trained as a telecommunications engineer . Among other things, Schuhbeck did his military service by working in a field kitchen . When he stopped off with his rock band Die Scalas in the Bavarian resort of Waging am See not far from Salzburg , he came across the innkeeper Sebastian Schuhbeck, who convinced him to train as a chef. Schuhbeck adopted Alfons, employed him in his restaurant and made him his heir. After attending the hotel management school in Bad Reichenhall Alfons Beck worked in Salzburg, Geneva , Paris , London and Munich (u. A. In the deli beetle , Dallmayr and restaurant Aubergine of Eckart Witzigmann ). In the early 1970s he leased the canteen of the headquarters of the Bavarian Red Cross and regularly cooked for over 300 helpers and employees.

In 1980 Schuhbeck took over the Kurhausstüberl in Waging . Soon he became the driving force in the company and won over the guests with his culinary art. The "Kurhausstüberl" became an insider tip for Munich and Salzburg celebrities and advanced from a village inn to a top restaurant. Schuhbeck earned the reputation of a "celebrity chef", where politicians, TV stars and executives went in and out.

He has been running a party service since 1990 , with which he supplied high-class events such as the Federal Chancellor Festival, the Sports Ball and the Echo Award Ceremony.

At the end of the 1990s he founded the gastronomic company Schuhbecks am Platzl GmbH . These now include the Orlando Restaurant , a wine bistro, a party service, a cooking school, a spice shop, a tea shop, a chocolate shop and an ice cream parlor . With the exception of the party service in Riem , all facilities are located in downtown Munich on Platzl . At the beginning of 2002 he closed the Kurhausstüberl in Waging.

In 2003, he opened the Schuhbecks restaurant in the South Tyrolean Stuben in Munich am Platzl, which was awarded a Michelin star until 2017 . Schuhbeck frequently employed changing chefs here.

Another company was Schuhbeck's Check Inn GmbH (founded in 2001) with the Schuhbeck's Check Inn restaurant at Egelsbach Airport near Frankfurt am Main and Schuhbeck's Check Inn at Bachgrund Estate in Büttelborn-Worfelden. The last-mentioned location was closed again in February 2012 after almost a year of operation. Shortly afterwards, after Schuhbeck left management, Schuhbeck's Check Inn GmbH filed for bankruptcy on March 21, 2012.

At the end of 2006 he opened “Schuhbeck's Schmankerl Shop” on Munich's Marienplatz with Galeria Kaufhof in Kaufinger-Tor-Passage. This facility offers Schuhbeck's spices, ice cream, wines, mustards, gift baskets and more. In 2007/2008 he designed the menu for the entrepreneur Jürgen Drexler in the “Blue Star Train”, a former Trans-Europ-Express train .

At the end of 2016, he opened Schuhbeck's fine dining in Boettner's former traditional Boettner restaurant . The restaurant should be the luxury label among the Schuhbeck restaurants; In 2018, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star under head chef Maurice Kriegs . Schuhbeck closed the restaurant in early 2020.

Schuhbeck also operates the Teatro Spiegelzelt in Munich.

Schuhbeck has been the chef for the FC Bayern Munich soccer team at away games in the Champions League and the Europa League for many years .
