life and work

Christian von Alvensleben took his first photos at the age of eleven with a Kodak box camera from a US CARE package , photos for the school newspaper followed. As an 18-year-old schoolboy, he went to France during the summer holidays to improve his language skills for his Abitur. In Montjustin he met the young German writer Hubert Fichte . The photos, which were taken in one day, were shown in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg in 2005 and are now in the Hubert-Fichte -Stiftung.

From 1962 a stay in Mozambique / Africa followed . He photographed big game and hunters, the photos he took were exhibited at the Photokina in 1993 (The Leopard's Track / caliber .378).

From 1964 Alvensleben attended the University of Westminster in London / England . He worked as an assistant to the photographer Karl-Heinz von Ludwig / Ali Khan in Munich, and since 1968 he has been a freelance photographer with his own studio in Hamburg-St. George. His first major works in 1969 included the pictures for the SPD's print advertising for the federal election. One motif from the campaign was the portrait “Marianne stayed seated”, a crying girl who was supposed to illustrate the SPD's better school policy . His picture "The Sunshine" of a naked, full-figure woman with a parasol on the beach for the advertisement of the film manufacturer Fuji became famous in 1972 . At that time, Time magazine dedicated a page to the photo; today the motif is one of the “images in the head” (German Press Museum, German Newspaper Museum).

This was followed by productions for editorial and advertising worldwide in the fields of architecture, interiors, industrial products, fashion, beauty, food, people, stills and transportation. He also portrays industrial managers, actors, athletes, musicians, politicians, fashion designers and TV stars.

In addition to photo illustrations of books for cooks and connoisseurs such as Alfons Schuhbeck , Alfred Biolek , Christiane Herzog , Bruno Bruni and “Food in Vogue ” / Condé Nast, the award-winning work -Das Apokalyptische Menu- was created in 1992.

His work has appeared in magazines such as A&W Architektur & Wohnen , Dance Magazin NY , Der Feinschmecker , Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Geo , Max , Merian , Der Spiegel , Stern , Vanity Fair , Vogue Braut , Vogue Casa , Vogue Deutsch , Vogue Pelle and Die Zeit . His work also includes TV commercials.

In 2005 a work that had already been awarded by the Art Directors Club (ADC) was proposed for the 2006 Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany . In over 35 years of photographic work, he has received over 80 awards for individual works from the German ADC, including gold medals and the 1993 Grand Prix.
