Max was the name of a magazine published in Hamburg owned by MAX Verlag GmbH & Co. KG , which is part of the Milchstrasse publishing group . This in turn has been 100% owned by Hubert Burda Media since 2004 .

Max was launched in 1991 and was published monthly; the last time with a double edition for the months of January / February 2008. In terms of content, Max defined himself as a photo, pop culture and lifestyle magazine.

According to IVW, the print run was continuously falling. While 250,393 copies were printed in the third quarter of 2005, the figure was only 220,333 in the fourth quarter. The number of subscribers in particular fell from 19,958 to 13,534 in the same period. On January 11, 2008, Hubert Burda Media announced the discontinuation of the magazine. The brand name MAX should be retained, for example for the publication of city guides.

In 2011 the publisher brought out a single edition (One Shot) of the print magazine. The editorial team consisted partly of members of the editorial team of the old magazine. In 2012 another single edition was published (“55 reasons to find life good right now”), which was created by Storyboard GmbH in Munich.

The online page of the magazine, however, continues to exist. From autumn 2011 to spring 2012, the content was delivered by students at the German School of Journalism in Munich. From spring 2012 to winter 2012, MAX.de wrote about topics from the field of pop culture with a one-man editorial team. From winter 2012, the site was integrated more closely into the Tomorrow Focus Media GmbH offer and, after the editorial team changed, it focused more on lifestyle topics. Since March 2013, only automatically imported dpa messages from the areas of pop culture and lifestyle have been received on the site .
