The Käfer Group is a company in the areas of gastronomy , catering , licensing and retail . The company employs over 1,500 people (2018) and generated total sales of 145 million euros in 2018. The company's headquarters are in the Parsdorf district of the Vaterstetten community near Munich .

history

Deli beetle was in 1930 with the opening of a grocery shop founded in Munich Amalienstraße of Elsa and Paul beetle. Three years after it was founded, they moved to larger premises on Prinzregentenstrasse . The Käfer headquarters are still located here today . In the 1960s, sons Gerd Käfer and Helmut Käfer took over their parents' delicatessen business and developed it further.

Michael Käfer , son of Gerd Käfer, joined the management in 1988 and took over the general management in 1992. After his father Gerd Käfer left the management in 1995 and took over his shares, Michael Käfer is the sole partner and chief executive officer of the company. Michael Käfer's wife Clarissa Käfer has been the commercial director at the head office since 2012.

The company employed over 1,500 people in 2018 and had an annual turnover of 136.3 million euros. Michael Käfer is the sole shareholder. The company is divided into the areas of retail, gastronomy, catering and licenses. Aided brand awareness was 42.8 percent in 2004.

Käfer delicatessen store

The Käfer delicatessen is located on 1,200 m² on the ground floor and in the basement of the Käfer headquarters in the building at Prinzregentenstrasse 73. Käfer stocks around 8,000 items, including over 350 types of cheese, 800 wines and spirits and 50 different types of meat. A selection from this range as well as boutique items and gift baskets can also be ordered via the online shop.

Käfer delicatessen markets

The Käfer delicatessen markets are self-service pick -up markets . There the customer receives a selected part of the delicatessen range at correspondingly lower prices. The first Käfer delicatessen market developed from a former staff sale in Parsdorf . In November 2005 the second delicatessen market was opened in Brunnthal near Munich and in March 2012 a further branch was opened in Schwabing's Leopoldstraße . Since spring 2016 there has been another branch in Solln that also has a small restaurant. This concept was also implemented in Planegg in the west of Munich at the beginning of 2018.

Käfer tavern

The main building on Prinzregentenstrasse also houses the Käfer tavern . This offers space for 250 guests. There are also 14 separate rooms for two to 50 people. The kitchen is open to the dining room and is designed in the style of an old castle kitchen. The chefs are Michael Emmerz and André Wöhner.

The Käfer Wiesn-Schänke at the Oktoberfest today offers over 3,000 places inside and outside of the wooden farmhouse, which has been expanded over the years from originally 40 places to 1,100 places inside and over 1,950 places outside today. In 1971 Käfer was represented for the first time with the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke at the Munich Oktoberfest. Over the years, the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke became a celebrity get-together and the Käfer Wiesn-Haferl a popular collector's item.

Theater and museum catering

The company is represented as a catering partner in many state theaters and museums in Munich, including the Café - Bar - Brasserie Kunsthalle Munich . With the management of the foyer in the Prinzregententheater, Paul Käfer opened up this new branch for Käfer gastronomy as early as the late 1950s. Today the company is represented in the Museum Villa Stuck and in the Kunsthalle Munich.

Exhibition catering

Since August 2015 Käfer Service GmbH has been responsible for the ICM - International Congress Center Munich as well as the Käfer am See restaurants , C1 and C2 , the Café Westside and several snack & drink units in the western part of the Munich Exhibition Center . The exhibitors can also use the party and delivery service for stand catering on site. Käfer Service GmbH has been responsible for trade fair catering at Messe München since 1998. In addition, the Käfer Group has been the new catering partner of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) since spring 2018. The cooperation came about through the purchase of Stockheim Catering Hamburg GmbH by Käfer Service GmbH. Käfer runs the restaurants and cafés at HMC and offers exhibitors all kinds of stand catering. With the completion of the CCH - Congress Center Hamburg, the portfolio will be expanded to include gastronomic service there from 2020.

With the completion of the MCH Group's new Basel Exhibition Center , the Käfer Schweiz AG subsidiary took over all catering there too. The commitment at Messe Basel includes the catering in Hall 1 with mobile concepts, two self-service restaurants, the Käfer Stube à la carte restaurant - Cuisine des Alpes and a production kitchen.

In 2016 Käfer Schweiz AG merged with Wassermann & Company . Michael Käfer sits on the board of directors and is involved with Käfer International GmbH. Wassermann & Company has taken over all areas of Käfer Schweiz AG . The Käfer Stube à la carte restaurant was redesigned and reopened by Wassermann & Company into the Verseau brasserie.

Käfer Berlin GmbH has been running the restaurants for members of the German Bundestag as well as the public roof garden restaurant next to the dome since 1998 . The German Bundestag is the only parliament building in the world that houses a public restaurant.

In October 2012, the Käfer found its way into the BMW world . The catering concept comprises the following catering units:

  • the 2-star gourmet restaurant EssZimmer on level 3 with chef Bobby Bräuer
  • the Bavarie restaurant on level 1
  • the Café Biker's Lodge on level 1
  • the Cooper’s bistro on the ground floor

Käfer pleasure room

In March 2015, the Käfer gourmet room “Bistro, Café & Shop” opened in the Ludwig Beck department store on Rathauseck. Snacks, hot meals, bread, cakes and gifts are offered there.

Käfer Gut Kaltenbrunn

In June 2015, Käfer opened the first construction phase of Käfer Gut Kaltenbrunn with an inn , Wittelsbacher Stube , the Salettl , a guest garden and a self-service family beer garden after extensive renovation. In the former stables there is space for events for 50 to 800 people. Due to the preservation of historical monuments, the constitutional court prevented the development of the property on Tegernsee with a luxury hotel in 2008. The Schörghuber family finally outsourced the management of Gut Kaltenbrunn am Tegernsee to Feinkost Käfer.

Catering

Since Käfer Service GmbH was founded around 50 years ago, Käfer Party Service has risen to become the international market leader in Europe. The party service was invented by Gerd Käfer . The all-round support for the customer from the planning phase to implementation made the Käfer Party Service known. In addition to its headquarters in Munich , Käfer Party Service has offices in Frankfurt am Main and Basel . In 2012 he was named “Caterer of the Year” with the “Leaders of the Year Award”.

Today the Käfer Party Service looks after around 250,000 guests annually at around 1,200 events, in Germany as well as internationally. During the soccer world championship 2006 the Käfer Party Service was responsible for the management of the upper segment in the stadiums and is a partner of FC Bayern Munich .

Licenses

Product licenses

Various Käfer products have been available in German supermarkets since 1986, making them accessible to a wide range of consumers. Käfer sells sprizz drinks, wines, breads, smoked salmon, oils and spice mixes under license.

Käfer started another cooperation in 1992 with the Japanese Mitsukoshi group . In the department store chain in Japan, Käfer Shops were set up in which typical German delicacies and gifts are sold.

Gastronomy licenses

Käfer granted its first license in the catering sector in 1999 to Allresto Flughafen München GmbH , which has been operating the Käfer Bistro at the airport in Terminal 1 ever since . The second Käfer Bistro opened in Terminal 2 at the end of June 2003.

The KÄFER by The Binjiang One restaurant opened in Shanghai in June 2011 . In addition to the main dining room and the living room, it houses a snow bar, alpine and hunting parlor, wine cellar and two private rooms. The local partner and operator of the KÄFER by The Binjiang One is BLN Restaurants & Caterings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Taiwanese Namchow Group and specializes in the development and implementation of catering concepts in Shanghai.

Name dispute

In 2017 Feinkost Käfer took action against the Kaefer porcelain house in Sohren , because the kaefer-shop.de online shop would not sufficiently differentiate itself from the Käfer delicatessen. The companies came to an amicable agreement.
