history

Mitsukoshi Tokyo

The company was founded in Japan during the Edo period in 1673 . The company's headquarters are in Tokyo and later split off from the Mitsui Group . On April 1, 2008, Mitsukoshi merged with Depāto Isetan under a joint holding company called KK Mitsukoshi-Isetan Holdings ( 株式会社 三越 伊勢丹 ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス , Kabushiki-gaisha Mitsukoshi Isetan Hōrudingusu , Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. ).

The “Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi” department store in Tokyo has the largest food department in a department store in the world (followed by KaDeWe in Berlin).

foreign countries

The foreign branches are dedicated to Japanese tourists as a target group , who are offered a selection of articles and souvenirs typical of the country in a noble ambience in inner-city locations in these interesting metropolises . Together with the purchase, the VAT refund is prepared on site. The same goes for foreign tourists in the Japanese branches. There are branches in Europe in Rome and Madrid , among others .

Germany

There are currently no branches in Germany.

One in Berlin was abandoned in the 1990s after a short existence on Kurfürstendamm due to the lack of a direct flight between Japan and the city. Branches in Frankfurt am Main and Munich were closed on December 31, 2008 and those in Düsseldorf on June 30, 2009.
