KK Takashimaya ( Japanese 株式会社 高 島 屋 , Kabushiki-gaisha Takashimaya ), listed in the Nikkei 225 , is a large Japanese department store chain ( depāto ) headquartered in Osaka . It was named after the city of Takashima in Shiga Prefecture .
The wholesale company was founded in Kyoto by Iida Shinshichi in 1829 . Takashimaya now has branches all over Japan , with one each in New York City on Fifth Avenue , Taipei , on Orchard Road in Singapore and in Paris on Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement .
