history

The roots of the MCH Group go back to the “ Swiss Sample Fair ” founded in 1916 , which later became the Basel Exhibition Center, and the Zurich Exhibition Center, established in 1945. It emerged in 2001 from the merger of the former exhibition companies in Basel and Zurich, which until May 2009 operated as MCH Swiss Exhibition (Holding) AG .

As of January 1, 2010, MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) AG with the subsidiary Exhibit & More AG in Fällanden and the holdings in Design Miami Basel AG in Basel and Design Miami II LLC in Miami belong under the umbrella of MCH Group AG / USA, MCH Swiss Exhibition (Zurich) AG, Rufener events Ltd. AG with the subsidiary Oceansalt LLC in Zurich, the Expomobilia AG with the subsidiary Technofot AG in Effretikon, the Winkler Livecom AG (former Winkler Veranstaltungstechnik AG and Winkler Multi Media Events AG) in Wohlen as well as Reflection Marketing from Wallisellen to the MCH Group. In 2015, MCH Group AG acquired a stake in the German stand construction company metron Vilshofen. In 2010, MCH Group AG also acquired the majority of shares in Beaulieu Exploitation SA - the operating company of the exhibition and congress grounds in Lausanne. In 2016, the MCH Group founded the company MCH Global AG (strategy and conception in live marketing) and took over the online art platform Curiator. Also in 2016, MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) AG, a MCH Group AG company, took over 60 percent of India Art Fair . This is a first step in building a portfolio of leading regional art fairs . In February 2017, MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) AG acquired a 25.1 percent stake in art.fair International GmbH in Cologne, the organizer of the new Art Düsseldorf art fair . In April 2017, the MCH Group acquired 100 percent of MC2, a service company in the trade fair and event market in the USA. In December 2017, the MCH Group acquired 67.5 percent of Masterpiece London Ltd., the organizer of the collectors' event of the same name. In July 2018 it was announced that from November 2019, together with AngusMontgomery Arts and Tim Etchells, a new fair for contemporary art for Singapore and Southeast Asia would be held in Singapore, ART SG. In November 2018, the MCH Group rejected the initiative to develop a portfolio with regional art fairs and announced its intention to sell its shares in India Art Fair and art.fair international GmbH and not to participate in the planned ART SG. At the end of 2018, Winkler Livecom AG was sold to its management and a private investor. In May 2019, the stake in art.fair international GmbH was sold.

The group of companies employs a good 900 permanent employees as well as 378 temporary employees and temporary workers, equivalent to 69 full-time positions, and generated sales of 440.3 million Swiss francs in 2016. The company is listed on the Swiss stock exchange SIX Swiss Exchange listed .

The cantons of Basel-Stadt , Basel-Landschaft and Zurich as well as the city of Zurich together held 49% of the share capital until 2020 and were accordingly represented on the Board of Directors. The Extraordinary General Meeting on August 3, 2020 resolved two capital increases and the lifting of the transfer restrictions . She also agreed that Lupa Systems, a subsidiary controlled by James Murdoch , the son of US media entrepreneur Rupert Murdoch, would become the new anchor shareholder of the MCH Group with at least 30%, optionally up to 49%, and elected its representative James Murdoch, Jeffrey Palker and Eleni Lionaki to the Board of Directors. This means that the share of the four named public service institutions drops to 33.3%.
