Art fair
An art fair is primarily a sales event for the visual arts and art-related objects. It includes in addition to the genres painting , sculpture , graphics , installation and new media as areas of the Arts , the arts and crafts ( arts and crafts ), the photography and film . The art fairs have known overlaps between the individual art areas since their inception.
Exhibitors are galleries and publishers. Your participation can be made dependent on the judgment of a jury appointed by the exhibition company or an advisory board.
Art fairs serve the trade in art and information. They take place at regular intervals, usually annually. Groups of visitors to these fairs are galleries, collectors, museums, publishers as well as art critics and various institutions in the art world.
history
Based on the first world exhibition in London's Hyde Park in 1851, the idea of the art fair as a performance exhibition of the fine arts slowly developed. In Germany, the first time there was the Grassimesse in the Grassimuseum Leipzig in 1920, an elite exhibition of the arts and crafts. In 1967 the first pure art fair for visual arts took place in Cologne. In 1975 it developed into Art Cologne , which is still one of the most important international trade fairs for the visual arts. Since that time, numerous art fairs have been founded on a national and international level, including Art Frankfurt and Art Forum Berlin and Art Karlsruhe in Germany . The Swiss Art Basel is currently the most important art fair in the world for contemporary art.
