The Munich Art Fair is the oldest art and antiques fair in Germany . It is held annually as an autumn fair lasting ten days by leading national and international exhibitors and is a consumer fair . For some time now, the exhibition location has been the “Postpalast” on Wredestrasse near the Hackerbrücke in Munich . The spectrum ranges from cultic and art objects from prehistory and early history (such as ancient Egyptian art ) to arts and crafts from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to modern art and design up to around 1970, with occasional exceptions. The fair is organized by Expo-Management Kiel, the notional sponsor of the fair is the recently founded Art Dealers Association Germany as the successor to the German Art Trade Association.

history

The fair began in 1956 as the “German Art and Antiques Fair”, sponsored by the German Art Trade Association . Until 1988 it took place as the leading event of its kind in the Haus der Kunst in Munich. Then, for reasons of space, the Munich exhibition center was chosen, finally in the exhibition halls in Riem . After an organizational realignment (and the name was temporarily changed to "Fine Art & Antiques" for legal reasons), the historic Postpalast was designated as the venue.

Range of offers

The offer encompasses all eras, basically all genres of art and handicrafts are offered, each with a changing focus. This also includes objects from art and curiosity chambers and textile art (carpets and flat woven fabrics) as well as vintage cars .
