Art austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The art austria is an art fair in Austria . It has been held annually in Vienna since 2008 . Over time it developed into a special fair with a focus on Austrian art. The exhibition program spans several eras and shows works from the 19th century to the present day. The presentation of exclusively Austrian artists is a differentiation from the programs of other art fairs. The participating galleries and art dealers are limited either to thematic focal points, to individual presentations or to a selection of a few artists.

history

On May 13, 2008, the fair opened for the first time under the motto “1920–1980” in the Museumsquartier Vienna . It presented Austrian art from this period and shed light on a part of art history that has shaped and / or influenced subsequent generations of artists.

Art austria 2009 had the motto "1900–> 2000" and presented a century of Austrian art. The list of artists showed a focus on the generations who had a decisive influence on artistic creation in Austria in the decades after 1945. It was also expanded with an area of 600 m².

In the third year of its existence, the fair expanded by dropping a requirement to restrict it to a few artists. The galleries were thus free to expand their offerings with works from the first decade of the 21st century. In addition, there was an increase in the range of artistic techniques and media, sculpture and photography.

In a one-time cooperation with the fair management, the Nitsch Foundation , established in 2009, organized the first presentation of the 2009 works from Hermann Nitsch's painting campaigns outside the museum.

In 2011, 49 galleries took part in the fair, which took place for the first time on the premises of the Leopold Museum Vienna.

Art austria 2012 was embedded in presentations on Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele and expanded by honoring the artists themselves as part of an “Art Austria Award”. Gottfried Bechtold , Michael Kienzer and Christoph Weber were honored.

In 2015 the fair took place for the 8th time. As in 2014, the museum's Schiele Hall was integrated into the tour of the fair and a new entrance was created. The Art Austria Award presented in recent years did not take place for sponsorship reasons.
