Michael Alexander Käfer (born February 2, 1958 in Munich ) is a German delicatessen retailer and Oktoberfest host .

Life

Michael Käfer is the older of the two sons of the restaurant entrepreneur Gerd Käfer . After graduating from high school, he studied business administration at the Munich University of Applied Sciences from 1978 to 1984 .

Immediately after graduating, Käfer opened the luxury discotheque P1 on Munich's Prinzregentenstrasse and was one of the first to bring the New York cult of so-called theme parties to Germany. Not least because of the celebrities going in and out there , Käfer became known far beyond Munich's borders as early as the mid-1980s.

As a shareholder in the family company Feinkost Käfer , he joined the company's management in 1988. After his uncle Helmut Käfer and his father wanted to sell the company to an investor at the beginning of the 1990s, Michael Käfer took out a loan and in 1995 bought the delicatessen, party service and gastronomy including the Käfer Wies' from his father and uncle. n-Schänke at Oktoberfest and in 2006 became the sole managing director of the entire group of companies. Käfer, who is now the operator and co-operator of a large number of Munich catering establishments, expanded the company's spectrum with successful business areas such as museum, trade fair and airport catering, a logistics center with wholesaling and mail order as well as delicatessen stores in Parsdorf and a Internet shop since 2000. In addition, there were worldwide branches, since 1992 a cooperation with the Japanese department store chain Mitsukoshi and other licenses for the distribution of in-house products by Käfer License GmbH, founded in 2003 . In 1999, the takeover of the catering management of the Berlin House of Representatives and the operation of the public roof terrace restaurant in the rear dome area of ​​the Reichstag building also made headlines . With the party service, the company now serves 300,000 guests at 2,000 events a year.

Due to the enlargement of the group of companies, it now has over 1000 employees and in 2011 achieved an annual turnover of 125 million euros .

Clarissa and Michael Käfer Foundation

Among other things, Käfer is the curator of Deutsche Sporthilfe . On the occasion of the wedding with his second wife Clarissa, he set up the private Clarissa and Michael Käfer Foundation with the purpose of promoting care for the elderly and supporting needy or elderly people. The foundation also helps the food bank in Munich. Clarissa Käfer has also been the patron of the Ronald McDonald House at the German Heart Center in Munich since 2012 .

Private

Käfer was first married from 1998 to 2004 to the business economist and entrepreneur Sabine Käfer, née Wittke and since 2006 daughter-in-law of the architect Peter Lanz . Shortly after the divorce, Käfer was in a relationship with an American for a few months, with whom he was expecting his first child in 2005. On the occasion of the separation, she threatened an abortion.

In his second marriage, he has been married to the lawyer Clarissa Käfer, née Ehrenhuber, since July 2007 and has had twin sons since March 2011.
