The German Heart Center Munich is a special clinic at the Technical University of Munich and one of Germany's leading centers for heart and circulatory diseases .

description

The hospital is located on Lazarettstrasse in the Neuhausen district on the site of the former Royal Bavarian Garrison Hospital built between 1868 and 1870 . In the years 1913 to 1915 the "Provisional German Heart Center" was built on Lothstrasse .

It was founded in 1972/73 as the first heart center in Europe. From 1974 to 1996 the modernized and rebuilt clinic was called the "German Heart Center Munich of the Free State of Bavaria" (DHM).

The northern wing of the former garrison hospital is still used today by the heart center; the southern wing was destroyed by air raids in World War II. A new building followed from 1996 and 2016. The hospital has around 171 beds and around 920 employees.

Court of Auditors criticism

In 2015, the Bavarian Supreme Court of Auditors found that the economic situation of the German Heart Center in Munich had deteriorated considerably. He considered it necessary to further develop the structure of the DHM. In particular, the cooperation between the DHM and the Klinikum rechts der Isar should be promoted.
