Rüdiger Lange

Rüdiger Lange (born July 19, 1953 in Bonn ) is a German heart surgeon and university professor.

Life

Long attended the grammar school in Rheinbach near Bonn. After graduating from high school, he studied medicine at the Universities of Bonn and Munich from 1973 to 1979 . In 1979 he completed his medical studies with the 3rd state examination at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He received his license to practice medicine on October 30, 1979 in Munich. In 1980 he received his doctorate in Bonn. med. In 1981 he began a surgical training under Sebening at the German Heart Center in Munich . A training grant from the German Research Foundation enabled him to do research at Harvard Medical School from 1981 to 1983 under the direction of Eugene Braunwald at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, MA and Shukri Khuri at the Veterans Administration Hospital, West Roxbury, MA.

After his time at Harvard, he began general surgical training under Jörg Rüdiger Siewert at the Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich. After another short period as an assistant doctor at the German Heart Center in Munich, he moved to the Heart Surgery Clinic at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 1988 . There he worked until 1999 as a senior physician and later as a senior senior physician under the direction of S. Hagl. In Heidelberg he was able to deepen his training in pediatric cardiac surgery. He also directed the clinic's heart transplant program. In 1993 he completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg and received his teaching license. In 1995 he was asked by the University of Ulm to temporarily take over the provisional management of cardiac surgery at the university hospital. After the recognition of the field designation for surgery on December 6, 1989, he received the recognition of the field of thoracic cardiovascular surgery on May 24, 1995. He learned lung surgery procedures during a stay of several months at the Rohrbach-Heidelberg Lung Clinic. On May 16, 2000, he received the field title of doctor for cardiac surgery. On April 25, 2005, he was recognized as an additional specialist in special cardiac surgical intensive care medicine. When he was appointed to the chair for cardiovascular surgery at the Technical University of Munich, he was appointed university professor in 1999 and came to the German Heart Center Munich as medical director.

He is a member of the German Society for Thoracic, Cardiovascular Surgery, German Society for Cardiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association for Thoracic Surgery and International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation.

Lange is married and has three children.

  • Lange has been awarded the Pirogow Order of the Russian Federation. The award was made on the recommendation of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
