The castle , built for Gabriel von Wattenwyl between 1743 and 1747, replaced a castle that dates back to the 11th century , the former seat of the barons of Bremgarten. While the Hoffassede consists of a pillar peristyle flanked by two corner towers , the slightly convex garden facade presents itself as a seven-axis plastered front with high arched windows and a basket arch portal in the central axis. The gardens were designed by Gustav Ammann in 1918 .
