The Klinikum rechts der Isar is the University Hospital of the Technical University of Munich in the Haidhausen district of Munich .

history

Today's clinic was founded in 1834 as a Haidhauser poor and hospital with 36 beds in a former coffee house, in 1840 by the Order of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent was taken over by Paul and managed for 130 years. With the incorporation to Munich came the renaming to hospital on the right of the Isar - this is referenced by the abbreviation MRI , which is still in use today and stands for (hospital) Munich on the right of the Isar . It was now in a position to care for up to 159 patients, who from 1866 onwards were separated into members of the surgical and internal departments for the first time. By 1902, under the strong pressure of the population increase, the number of beds was increased to 736, of which only 200 were available at the end of the Second World War . In March 1954, the hospital on the right of the Isar was rebuilt and expanded as part of a comprehensive hospital development plan by the city of Munich.

In 1967 the hospital became a university clinic, thanks in part to Georg Maurer . It received the status of a university clinic of the Technical University of Munich, later the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and was expanded to include a lecture hall. Since then, the clinic has been continuously expanded and modernized.

Since July 2003 the clinic has been a legally independent institution under public law .

The successful transplant of two complete arms in June 2008, in which around 40 doctors were involved, caused a sensation worldwide . Two years later, the patient's healing process was so advanced that he could move and use his hands and fingers again.

In 2009 the clinic celebrated its 175th anniversary.

Clinics and departments

Today the Klinikum rechts der Isar consists of 33 clinics and departments, plus 17 institutes and several interdisciplinary centers. The Roman Herzog Cancer Center (RHCCC) is dedicated to improving care for patients with all types of cancer. Every year around 58,000 inpatients and 220,000 outpatients are treated. The clinic is managed by a four-person board of directors, on which the medical director , the commercial director, the dean of the medical faculty and the nursing director are represented. The chairman of the board is the medical director.

Anaesthesiology Clinic

The Clinic for Anaesthesiology (Director Gerhard Schneider) comprises the following departments:

In the context of the organ donation scandal, the public prosecutor's office investigated irregularities in the allocation of donor livers in the Klinikum rechts der Isar. On February 21, 2013 the clinic confirmed that the employment relationship with the chief physician of the surgical clinic was terminated. On May 15, 2013, the Bavarian state government announced that the clinic would probably lose its approval for liver transplants at the beginning of June.
