history
Medicine can be studied in Halle since 1694. The hospital of the Francke Foundations, established in 1716, was used for clinical lessons. From 1786 the vacant Glauchaer Hospital and later also the building of the reformed high school of the city were used. The first faculty-owned hospital was built in 1839/1840 based on plans by Johann Justus Peter on Domplatz, which was expanded several times. In order to meet the increased medical requirements, a new clinic complex was built close to the center on Magdeburger Strasse under the direction of the architects Ludwig von Tiedemann and Emil Streichert between 1876 and 1884 . At the beginning of the 1950s, some buildings were expanded and developed there. In 1974, the construction of a hospital to supply Halle-Neustadt began on Ernst-Grube-Strasse in Kröllwitz , which became the property of the university in 1979. Two unit buildings were built, and some departments moved into the new complex by 1984. After reunification, this hospital location was modernized and expanded. At the beginning of the millennium, a new extension was built for 153 million euros, which includes a central operating room with 20 rooms, new intensive care units, a blood bank as well as polyclinical areas and bed wards. In addition, new lecture halls, seminar rooms and a library were built. Since January 1st, 2006 the University Hospital Halle (Saale) is an institution under public law .
Medical treatment
It is a maximum care hospital . It has around 1,000 inpatient beds. Around 120,000 outpatients and 40,000 inpatients are treated annually.
