The University Clinic Regensburg ( UKR ) is the only maximum medical provider in the entire eastern Bavarian region with a population of just over two million. Every year around 35,500 inpatients and a further 154,000 outpatients are treated here. With a case mix index of 2.00, the UKR is at the top of the German university clinics and thus treats the most severe clinical pictures nationwide.

The UKR is available to the Medical Faculty of the University of Regensburg for research and teaching. Nationally and internationally, the University and University Hospital of Regensburg enjoy an excellent reputation as a medical research facility. The main research areas are immunotherapy, tumor research and transplant medicine.

Key figures

Around 4,900 people are currently employed at the Regensburg University Hospital. Around 700 of them are doctors and more than 1,700 nurses. In addition, there are around 1,200 employees in the medical-technical service, 500 in administration and building services. In addition there are 2,150 students of human medicine and dentistry. The clinic has 839 beds (including 83 intensive care beds), 52 day clinic treatment places and twelve dialysis places . In 2018, around 154,000 outpatients and around 35,500 inpatients were treated.

With a case mix index (average case severity) of 2.00, the UKR is at the top of the German university hospitals and is therefore equipped for the treatment of the most serious illnesses and injuries.

history

  • 1962: Decision to found a university with a full range of subjects in Regensburg
  • 1969: Appointment of the medical advisory board for the planning and structure of the medical faculty
  • September 26, 1978: laying of the foundation stone for the hospital; Start of the first construction phase: dental, oral and maxillofacial clinic
  • 1984: The clinic and polyclinic for dental, oral and maxillary diseases goes into operation
  • 1985: Start of construction on the 2nd construction phase
  • October 21, 1992 Official opening of the 2nd construction phase with 500 beds and the start of inpatient operations
  • 1993: Decision of the Bavarian state government to build the first part of the final third construction phase with 300 beds without co-financing from the federal government

Health region plus

The University Hospital Regensburg is a member of the Health Region plus City and District of Regensburg. With the Health Regions Plus concept, the Bavarian State Ministry for Health and Care wants to further improve medical care and prevention in the Free State. The health region plus city and district of Regensburg is the amalgamation of institutions and experts in the health sector, through whose closer networking the health care and prevention for the population in and around Regensburg can be further optimized.
