The Ruppin clinics are a hospital of specialized care in the city of Neuruppin in Brandenburg . Since the Brandenburg Medical School was founded on October 28, 2014, the municipal hospital has been one of the university's three university clinics and sponsoring clinics, alongside the Brandenburg City Hospital in Brandenburg an der Havel and the Immanuel Klinikum Bernau Heart Center Brandenburg in Bernau near Berlin . Furthermore, the Ruppin Clinics were the academic teaching hospital of the Berlin Charité .

history

the listed main building of the Ruppiner Kliniken in Neuruppin

In 1892 the Province of Brandenburg decided to build a sanatorium and nursing home on Treskower Berg on the Chaussee to Fehrbellin south of the city. The architects were Franz Peveling , Gustav Bluth and Theodor Goecke . A park was created immediately in front of the main building on Fehrbelliner Strasse, from which one had a direct view of the Ruppiner See . Initially, the newly founded institution had a tuberculosis department only for women. In 1901 the institution got two hospitals with 240 beds and in the following year a tuberculosis department for men was opened. In this context, a lounge hall was built on the south side of the corresponding house . In 1905 the complex was expanded again to include two hospitals with 120 beds. The opening of a modern laboratory followed.

In 1907 the Neuruppin institution had 1,600 beds. Overall, the patients were of 227 nurses and sisters served. Occupational therapies were made possible by setting up workshops . So specially institution existed a shoemaker , a saddlery , three tailors , a bindery , a basket maker , a painting, plumbing , a butcher, a Nähsaal, a knitting room, a patchwork hall and a cleaning kitchen.

On May 1, 1945 the hospital was occupied by the Red Army . However, the site was cleared again by autumn. Due to the war-related destruction in Berlin , three buildings served as alternative facilities for hospitals in the capital until 1946. Furthermore, a district hospital of the Johanniter moved into former institution buildings, since the old district hospital became the hospital of the Soviet army. In addition, departments for surgery and internal medicine , but also for the chronically ill and tuberculosis, were established. In 1946 the number of beds in the district hospital was 930, in 1947 770.

In 1951 there were four hospital facilities in seventeen buildings on the site. The State Psychiatric Institute had a capacity of 1,068 beds, the State Tuberculosis Hospital had 320 beds, the State Orthopedic Clinic had 150 beds and the Ruppin District Hospital had 712 beds. After the states were dissolved and districts founded in 1952 , the sponsorships changed. In 1954, the tuberculosis and orthopedic hospitals were incorporated into the district hospital, which was upgraded to a district hospital in the 1960s. The former state psychiatric institute was renamed Neuruppin Hospital for Neurology and Psychiatry in 1958 and the District Nervous Clinic in 1977 .

In 1996 the former district hospital and the former district neurological clinic were merged to form the Ruppiner clinics. Since then, the clinic has been expanded to include additional new buildings.

Scandals

The Ruppin clinics were involved in various scandals. In May 2014, it became known that the hospital's patients had repeatedly been served expired food and food covered with mold . These incidents were only discussed at the instigation of the works council . The management confirmed incidents in the kitchen area, but denied the distribution of moldy food. In August 2014 it became known that sour mashed potatoes had been served in the company's own kindergarten. Furthermore, pieces of plastic are said to have been found in the food.

In 2013 it became public that the Ruppiner clinics were involved in interest rate bets . Before the euro crisis , the clinic had made such high-risk bets with West LB for around 15 million euros and suffered losses of around 3 million euros. Because of the initial suspicion of infidelity , the public prosecutor's office investigated the clinic director in 2010. The background was a sponsorship of the local television broadcaster Ruppin-TV with substantial funds from the local hospital.
