history

Main building (house 1)

The hundred years of history of the hospital on the high road began on July 1, 1901. On that day the new city hospital at that time outside the Brandenburg Old Town situated Marienberg to the public. Previously, the city hospital on the old town market was housed in the secretariat and syndicate house and the adjoining adjoining building. The new hospital building, which is now a listed building and is now the seat of the administration, was built according to a design by the architect from Berlin's building officer Heino Schmieden . It is a historicist building, which was mainly made of unplastered red brick . Initially it was occupied with 150 beds.

Since the population of Brandenburg increased in the following decades and due to the increasing mechanization of medicine, the building was no longer sufficient after a few years, so that extensions were made. In 1927, a new two-wing building was erected east of the main building. Between 1937 and 1939, an administration building and the summer house, which is called the Gray House, were built.

To the west of the main building, a temporary barrack complex was built from 1939, which in the GDR housed a children's ward and the gynecological-oncological ward F 5, among other things. This complex was only removed in the course of the new western building.

Former branch of the clinic in Kirchmöser

In the GDR , the clinic became a district hospital . It was the central clinic for the surrounding cities and communities. As a result, a branch with clinics for orthopedics , ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat medicine was established in Kirchmöser, which belonged to the city of Brandenburg after the incorporation . Extension buildings on Hochstrasse were a children's bed house in 1970 and a building for laboratory medicine in 1975. The clinic, including its branch in Kirchmöser, had more than 1,000 beds in the mid-1980s.

In the 1960s, Hans-Georg Großmann was Medical Director and Head of the Women's Clinic at the Brandenburg / Havel District Hospital.

The rescue helicopter Christoph 35 is permanently stationed at the municipal clinic.

In 1992 the district hospital was renamed the Brandenburg Municipal Hospital . In the following year, the rescue helicopter Christoph 35 was stationed at the hospital on the Marienberg, which was connected directly to the hospital. Since then, the clinic has occupied the emergency doctor for air rescue in the western state of Brandenburg and eastern Saxony-Anhalt . Major modernization, conversion and new building measures have been carried out at the clinic since the 1990s. In 1994 the ear, nose and throat clinic in Kirchmöser moved to a new building on the Marienberg. Furthermore, a clinic for neurosurgery was newly established.

Western new building (house 2)

In 2002, a new building was opened west of the main building. This is where the clinic's central operations department is located with ten halls, a maternity department with an attached neonatology unit , an intensive care unit and the rescue center for Brandenburg an der Havel and the surrounding area. The institutes for radiology , pathology and a functional department of the internal clinics are also housed.

One year later, in 2003, the branch in Kirchmöser was closed and the clinics for ophthalmology and orthopedics moved to Hochstrasse. In 2011 the new east building was opened. This accommodates 319 beds. The premises are used by the surgical and orthopedic clinics, the clinics for internal medicine, urology , the ophthalmic clinic, ear, nose and throat medicine. This new building also houses an interdisciplinary reception center and physiotherapy .

In 2014, the Brandenburg City Hospital, previously a standard care hospital, was recognized as a specialist care hospital. The clinic is a partial owner of the private Brandenburg Medical School, which was founded on October 28, 2014, and has been this university hospital since it was founded.

In 2018, a second intensive care unit was opened for the internal medicine clinic. Since then, the existing intensive care unit has mainly treated patients in general, trauma and neurosurgery. In the same year, the pathology department and the hospital pharmacy moved into a new building. A dialysis station was launched.
