The Caritas Hospital St. Josef is a hospital in Regensburg . It is a cooperative and academic teaching hospital of the University of Regensburg .

history

The Caritas Hospital St. Josef was founded in 1950 after the Caritas Association took over a hospital run by the IRO ( International Refugee Organization ) for displaced persons . There were 300 beds available and the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross took care of the care .

Between 1951 and 1961, the house was gradually rebuilt and expanded through the establishment of specialist departments. In 1952 the nursing school opened (today: vocational school for health and nursing). In 1971 a nephrological department and a dialysis center were set up . In 1984 the urology department was converted into a main department under the new head of Wolf F. Wieland . In 1987 and 1988, single and double rooms were set up and wet rooms were installed.

In 1988, the ESWL system (kidney and gallstone smashers) was put into operation in urology. In 1990 the neurological department was dissolved and a cooperation started with the KfH kidney center in Regensburg. In 1992/93, after completion of the north wing, 311 beds were available and plastic hand and reconstructive surgery was added as a new specialist department. In 2003 a cooperation agreement was signed with the University of Regensburg. The clinic for gynecology and obstetrics and the clinic for urology thus received the status of a university clinic of the University of Regensburg. The entire hospital became a cooperation and academic teaching hospital of the University of Regensburg.

In 2004 it was recognized as the first “ baby-friendly hospital ” in Bavaria by UNICEF / WHO and certified as a breast center by the German Cancer Society under the umbrella of the Regensburg Tumor Center. In 2007, three new operating theaters and a new delivery area were put into operation. In 2008 the first construction phase of the supplementary measure was inaugurated, followed by certification as a gynecological cancer center by the German Cancer Society and as a reference and competence center for surgical coloproctology.

In 2009 the entire Caritas Hospital St. Josef was certified according to the rules of KTQ-GmbH and proCum Cert-GmbH . In 2010, the continence and pelvic floor center was certified by the Deutsche Kontinenzgesellschaft eV, certification as a colon cancer center by the German Cancer Society and the prostate cancer center. In addition, the number of training places at the vocational school for health and nursing has doubled to 132 places.

Certification as an oncological center took place in 2011 . The treatment of tumor diseases has been a special focus since then. With its tumor surgery, the use of chemotherapy and antibody therapies, over 800 tumor patients with new diseases are treated in the organ centers every year. A merger of the various organ centers - consisting of a breast center, gynecological cancer center, prostate cancer center and colon cancer center - as an oncological center (certified by the German Cancer Society) promotes interdisciplinary cooperation in special therapeutic situations.

In July 2012, the Clinic for Accident Medicine with a focus on acute traumatology, geriatric traumatology and joint surgery was founded under the direction of Michael Nerlich . In the same year, the cooperation with the Regensburg University Hospital was intensified and the University Center for Plastic and Aesthetic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery was launched.

The house has been certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 2008 since November 2012. The clinic for trauma medicine was certified as the first geriatric trauma center in Germany in 2014. In addition to specialized trauma surgeons, geriatricians , geriatric psychiatric specialists , physiotherapists and occupational therapists also work at the clinic .
