Baby friendly hospital

The WHO / UNICEF Initiative Baby Friendly Hospital and Baby-Friendly Hospital (BFHI from English Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative ) is committed to improving conditions in maternity hospitals to view the parent-child bond to protect and the Pacific to promote.

WHO and UNICEF launched the international Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) program in 1991 .

Basis and criteria

The criteria are based on the international guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF. They are the substantive basis for the certification of an obstetrics and paediatrics facility as baby-friendly .

implementation

This initiative is now being implemented in 152 countries. In the German-speaking countries, it is through

  • "Baby-friendly" according to BESt criteria (Germany),
  • "Baby-friendly Hospital" (Austria) or
  • "Baby-friendly hospital" (Switzerland) implemented.

Implementation in individual countries

Germany

The initiative is implemented through the “baby-friendly” quality seal in accordance with BESt criteria. The certification authority is ClarCert.

Austria

The Austrian BFHI initiative is part of the Austrian Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Institutions (ONGKG). The ONGKG is responsible for the certification of the facilities. As of September 2015, 15 hospitals were certified.

Switzerland

Swiss hospitals that meet the quality criteria of the “Baby-Friendly Spital Initiative” (BFHI) from UNICEF and WHO awards UNICEF Switzerland the “Baby-Friendly Spital” quality label. As of summer 2015, 31 hospitals and birth centers were certified.
