Michael Nerlich (physician)

Michael Nerlich (born April 24, 1953 in Landshut ) is a German orthopedic surgeon and trauma surgeon . In 2015, he was President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) and the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU).

Life

After studying human medicine (1972–1978) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Michael Nerlich began his specialist training in the surgery center of the Trauma Surgery Clinic at the Hannover Medical School (MHH), which he completed in 1985 as a specialist in surgery / trauma surgery . From 1981 to 1982 there was a research stay at the University of California in Davis, USA. In 1986 Nerlich was a fellow at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Orthopedic Surgery, Inselspital, University of Bern . From 1986 to 1992 he was senior physician at the Trauma Surgery Clinic of the MHH, where he completed his habilitation in 1987 .

In 1992 Nerlich was appointed to a professorship for trauma surgery at the University Clinic Regensburg (UKR), initially as head of the first independent department for trauma surgery in Bavaria and later as director of the clinic and polyclinic for trauma surgery. From 2012 to April 2019 Michael Nerlich was also the director of the Clinic for Accident Medicine at the Caritas Hospital St. Josef in Regensburg, which focuses on geriatric traumatology . He has been a sports medicine specialist since 2001 and a specialist in orthopedics since 2007.

Michael Nerlich's research focuses on fracture healing, sports medicine , emergency medicine , rescue services , severely injured and multiple trauma - health services research , biomechanics , tissue engineering and teleradiology .

Functions

In 1995 Michael Nerlich founded the Rescue Center Regensburg e. V. (RZR) and has been its honorary chairman since then. From 2003 to 2011 he was President of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (IsfTeH) and has been Chairman of the Board of Forum MedTech-Pharma e. V. Nerlich has headed the AARU (Audi Accident Research Unit) research group since 1998.

In 2009 Michael Nerlich was the initiator of the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence Regensburg, one of the few medical centers with which FIFA would like to establish a global network of experts in football medicine. Nerlich is also a trustee of the international working group for osteosynthesis (AO Foundation). Since 2012, the BMBF study POLYQUALY (health services research) has been carried out at the Regensburg University Hospital under the direction of Nerlich. In the same year Nerlich was chairman of the Association of Bavarian Surgeons e. V. (VBC) and brought the 89th annual meeting of the association to Regensburg in July 2012.

Nerlich is u. a. Member of the German Society for Trauma Surgery. In 2015 he was elected President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) and President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU). In October 2015 he chaired the German Congress for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DKOU) in Berlin.
