The DGOU promotes research in the field, provides platforms and networks for the exchange of researchers and scientists and communicates the latest scientific findings, for example through the specialist journal "Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery - Messages and Messages" and at the " German Congress for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery " (DKOU), which takes place once a year in Berlin.

Continuing education and training

It was founded on July 8, 2008 in the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus in Berlin by the board members of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) and the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU). This was preceded by a rapprochement between the two specialist societies since the mid-1990s and the development of joint training regulations for specialists in orthopedics and trauma surgery , which were introduced in all German state medical associations from 2003 .

The then President of the DGOOC Joachim Grifka from Regensburg was elected as the first President , his deputy became the incumbent President of the DGU Axel Ekkernkamp from Greifswald / Berlin. The annual general meetings take place at the same time as the German Congress for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery in October in Berlin.
