Henning Windhagen

Henning Windhagen (born March 4, 1965 in Essen ) is a German orthopedic surgeon and trauma surgeon . He has been director of the orthopedic clinic at the Hannover Medical School at Annastift since 2006 and was president of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) and the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) in 2014 .

Life

Henning Windhagen studied human medicine at the Philipps University of Marburg and at the University of Bern (Switzerland) from 1984 to 1991 , then was a post-doctoral fellow in Orthopedic Surgery and Biomechanical Sciences at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, and was an Else scholar -Kröner-Fresenius-Foundation and the B. Braun-Foundation. After working as an assistant doctor at the Clinic for Trauma Surgery at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Virchow Clinic of the Charité , Windhagen became a specialist in orthopedics and research assistant at the Orthopedic Clinic of the Hannover Medical School (MHH) in 1996 , where he completed his habilitation in 2001. In 2004 he received an additional teaching position for biomedical engineering at the University of Hanover. Since 2006, Windhagen has been full professor of orthopedics at the MHH and director of the orthopedic clinic and the laboratory for biomechanics and biomaterials. In 2007 Windhagen took over the co-management of the research center CrossBIT (cross-sectional center for biomaterials, implant immunology and medical technology) and in 2008 the management of OrthoGO (institute for orthopedic gait and movement analysis). Since 2009 he has been the medical director of the orthopedic clinic of the MHH in Annastift. In addition, Windhagen has been a board member of the Lower Saxony Center for Implant Research and Development (NIFE) since 2012.

Research and Clinic

Henning Windhagen's research focuses on implant research, computer-assisted surgery (CAS, navigation), biomechanics and surface coatings, growth factors and cytokine interactions, absorbable biomaterials and osteonecrosis . Henning Windhagen deals with hip and knee surgery, in particular with artificial joint replacements and revision endoprosthetics.

Functions

From 2008 to 2011 Henning Windhagen was treasurer of the Society for Extremity Reconstruction ASAMI-German. From 2009 until 2011 he was Deputy Head of the Conference of Orthopedic Ordinaries. From 2010 to 2012 Windhagen was Vice President of the Basic Research Section of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery. In 2014 Windhagen was elected President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) and the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU). Windhagen is also President of the Association for Orthopedic Research (AFOR) and Secretary of the AE - German Society for Endoprosthetics.

Henning Windhagen is a reviewer for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , reviewer for the journals Journal of Orthopedic Research , Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research (CORR) and Biomaterials , co-editor of the magazine for orthopedics and traumatology and on the scientific advisory board of the magazine Der Orthopäde .
