Florian Gebhard

Florian Gebhard (born March 5, 1960 in Munich ) is a German orthopedic surgeon and trauma surgeon . Gebhard has been Medical Director of the Clinic for Trauma Surgery, Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Ulm since 2007, Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty of Ulm University since 2010 and President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) and Vice President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery since 2016 ( DGOU) .

Life

After studying human medicine (1979–1985) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) , Gebhard initially worked as a medical officer and diving doctor in the German armed forces. From 1987 to 1989 he worked as an assistant doctor in the department for trauma surgery and burn medicine at the Bundeswehr Central Hospital in Koblenz, then until 1993 as an assistant doctor and senior physician in the surgical department of the Bundeswehr hospital in Ulm. Gebhard acquired his specialist certification for surgery in 1993, followed two years later by the specialization of trauma surgery and the field of hand surgery. Until 2006, Gebhard worked in the Department of Trauma Surgery, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery at the Center for Surgery at the University of Ulm, most recently as senior physician in charge. Here he completed his habilitation in 1998. In 2003 Gebhard received an extraordinary professorship from Ulm University. After being appointed to the Universities of Würzburg and Ulm, Florian Gebhard has been Medical Director of the Clinic for Trauma Surgery, Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ulm since 2007. In the same year he was appointed to the chair for trauma surgery. In addition, Gebhard has been Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty of Ulm University since 2010 . Florian Gebhard is the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 1149 of the Medical Faculty of Ulm University.

Florian Gebhard's main research areas include post-traumatic inflammation after multiple trauma, specifically the importance of chest trauma , clinical examinations of pelvic and spinal injuries, studies of augmented implants, computer-assisted surgical procedures for bones and joints and intraoperative 3D imaging.

Functions

Florian Gebhard has been a member of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) since 1994 and was an active member of the temporary advisory board and program committee of the DGU. In 2016 he was President of the DGU and Deputy President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU). He is also an international member of the OTA and a member of numerous other specialist societies. Gebhard is on the editorial board of the specialist journal "Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery", the OP-Journal and a member of the scientific advisory board of the specialist journal "Der Unfallchirurg". In AOTrauma Germany (AOTD) he has been Chairman of the Education Commission and Vice President since 2013.

Florian Gebhard is a member of the Board of Trustees and President-elect of the AO Foundation and President of the German Trauma Foundation

Gebhard is also a reviewer for specialist journals such as “Der Unfallchirurg”, “Zeitschrift für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie”, “European Journal of Trauma”, “Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery”, “Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research (CORR)”, “Journal of Orthopedic Research (JORES) ”,“ European Spine Journal ”and“ American Journal for Sports Medicine ”as well as working for the German Research Foundation (DFG).
