Nerses Akinian

Nerses W. Akinian (also Nersēs Akinean , Armenian Ներսես Ակինյան ; born September 10, 1883 in Artvin , † October 23, 1963 in Vienna ) was an Armenian church historian, philologist and leading exponent of Armenian studies .

Nerses Akinian entered the Mechitarist Order in Vienna in 1895 , for which he worked until the end of his life. In 1907 he was ordained a priest. In Vienna he worked for the Order as a librarian and was editor-in-chief of the magazine Handes Amsorya for over 50 years . Research trips took him to the USA, among others . His studies on Armenian literature were published in German, English and Armenian. For his services, he received an honorary doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna on October 30, 1954 .
