Matthias Anthuber

Matthias Anthuber (born January 24, 1959 in Bochum ) is a German surgeon , university professor and former German national handball player .

Career

Anthuber graduated from high school in 1978 at Tassilo-Gymnasium in Simbach am Inn . After his community service at the Munich Klinikum rechts der Isar , he studied human medicine from 1979 to 1985 at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich . On November 28, 1985, he received his license to practice medicine . 1986 Anthuber in was Ernst Poppel at the Institute of Medical Psychology at LMU on the subject single and choice reactions in handball players and non-athletes graduated . He then worked for two years as a research assistant at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic, Großhadern Clinic . From 1987 to 1995 he worked in the same position at the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Großhadern Clinic. At the end of 1995 he became senior physician at the University Hospital in Regensburg and two years later he became senior physician at the clinic and polyclinic of the same clinic. In 1997 he was the subject of studies on ischemia / reperfusion injury after liver transplantation in rats - the influence of prostaglandins and ACE inhibitors habilitation . In 1999 he became C3 professor at the University of Regensburg and in 2002 C4 professor on a temporary basis in Regensburg. From 2002 to 2003 Anthuber was acting director of the clinic and polyclinic in Regensburg. For one year he was chief physician in general and visceral surgery at the Altötting District Clinic . Since August 1, 2004, Anthuber has been chief physician for general, visceral and transplant surgery at the Augsburg University Hospital . Anthuber is also the head of the surgical center and head of the transplant center at the Augsburg Clinic. In 2005 Anthuber was appointed adjunct professor at LMU. Anthuber is married and has three children.

He has been chairman of the regional association of the professional association of German surgeons since 2005. From October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009, Anthuber was chairman of the Association of Bavarian Surgeons. In 2010 he was elected its general secretary. From 2009 to 2011 he was also chairman of the convention of leading hospital surgeons and remains a member of the board and advisory board. He is currently President of the Association of German Visceral Surgeons. In addition, he is active in various national committees of German surgery at advisory board and board level (e.g. Surgical Working Group Oncology / Visceral Surgery). In 2018/2019 he is President of the German Society for Surgery .

Sports career

Before his medical career, Anthuber was active as a handball player. He first played for TSV Simbach and later for the Bundesliga club TSV Milbertshofen and MTSV Schwabing. Since he was sixteen he played in the youth and junior handball national team (approx. 100 international matches). Anthuber was a team captain participant in the Junior Handball World Championship in Denmark in 1979. For the senior national team , he played two internationals. Both games took place in Reykjavík against Iceland . The first game took place on November 14, 1980, the second two days later. Anthuber couldn't score a goal in either game.
