Hans Schlitt

Hans Jürgen Schlitt (born May 26, 1961 in Fulda ) is a surgeon who specializes in tumor surgery, transplant surgery and surgery of the liver and pancreas and holds the chair for surgery and director of the clinic and polyclinic for surgery at the University Hospital in Regensburg .

Life

After graduating from high school, Schlitt studied medicine at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg from 1980 to 1986 . After completing his habilitation at the Hannover Medical School in 1994, he worked as a senior physician at the Clinic for Visceral and Transplant Surgery, Hannover Medical School (MHH). In 2002 he was appointed to a professorship at the University of Sydney in Australia. Since 2003 he has been director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Surgery, Clinic of the University of Regensburg. He has published scientific papers in the fields of transplant immunology, liver and pancreatic surgery. Schlitt is the spokesman for a DFG research group on the subject of organ transplantation and the head of multiple innovative clinical studies.

Schlitt is married and has three children.

Göttingen organ donation scandal

In connection with the so-called Göttingen organ donation scandal , Schlitt was given leave of absence by the Bavarian State Minister for Science, Research and Art Wolfgang Heubisch at the beginning of August 2012 . Schlitt was never suspected of tampering with patient files. He was the superior of the former senior doctor, who is suspected of having manipulated patient data in Regensburg and then as a senior doctor in Göttingen. The reason for the leave of absence was that Schlitt might not have fulfilled his duty of supervision. In November 2012, the hospital's board of directors and supervisory board decided that Schlitt could resume his work. An external report had exonerated the surgeon. He could not be proven "no serious breaches of his contractual obligations".
