Legal disputes

From 2012, the public prosecutor's office investigated irregularities in the allocation of donor livers at the Klinikum rechts der Isar. In connection with manipulation of liver transplants, the supervisory board of the Klinikum rechts der Isar decided in February 2013 to part with the surgeon. On February 21, 2013, the clinic confirmed that it had terminated the employment relationship. After his release from the hospital in 2013, Friess worked as a consultant and expert for medical technology for a patent law firm. On May 27, 2014, a Munich court declared Professor Friess' dismissal to be ineffective. The court ruling once again confirmed that Friess was right in all aspects of the trial. Since July 1, 2014, Helmut Friess has been working again in his previous position as director of the surgical clinic at Klinikum rechts der Isar.

In January 2015, the public prosecutor's office investigated two criminal charges against Friess on suspicion of fraud. He is mentioned as a surgeon in surgical reports, although he was not involved in the interventions. Nevertheless, treatment by the chief physician was billed. Friess rejects the allegation because he accidentally signed the incorrect reports. For his part, he filed criminal charges against unknown persons for defamation, defamation and insult.
