Karl Vossschulte

Karl Vossschulte or Karl Aloisius Vossschulte (born June 1, 1907 in Beckum ; † April 6, 2001 in Gießen ) was a German surgeon and university professor .

Vossschulte studied medicine in Freiburg, Gießen and Kiel and became a member of each of the Catholic student associations in KV : K.St.V. Brisgovia Freiburg , KStV Nassovia Gießen and KAV Baltia Kiel. For his many years of club commitment and his academic life's work, he was named one of the three honorary philists of the KStV Nassovia Gießen.

In 1941 he completed his habilitation with Emil Karl Frey , with whom he went to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1943 as first senior physician . After the reconstruction of the war-torn clinic in the Nußbaumstraße 1951 he followed the reputation of the University of Giessen in the Department of Surgery. In 1954 he turned down an offer from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen . First he released neurosurgery , later anesthesiology and urology and finally accident surgery and cardiac surgery into self-employment. As the “grandson” of Ferdinand Sauerbruch , he devoted himself particularly to thoracic surgery . He was the editor of the journal Thoraxchirurgie und Vaskulare Chirurgie, founded in 1953, and was one of the founders of the German Society for Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, which emerged in 1971 from the “Thoracic Surgery Conference” .

1975 68th year emeritus , he died shortly before his 94th birthday. His grave is in the monk's cemetery of the Arnsburg monastery near Lich .
