Hans-Wolfgang Schega (born December 20, 1915 in Dresden , † July 10, 2005 in Mainz ) was a German surgeon .

Life

Born in Dresden in 1915, Wolfgang Schega did military service from 1935 to 1937 after graduating from the König-Georg-Gymnasium in his hometown and then studied medicine in Munich. After the state examination and doctorate in 1941, he began his medical practice - interrupted by military service and imprisonment. Since October 1945 he worked at the surgical clinic of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , after being recognized as a specialist in surgery in 1951 and habilitation in 1953 as first senior physician for several years.

After being appointed extraordinary professor in 1959, Wolfgang Schega became chief physician of the surgical clinic of the Krefeld municipal hospitals in 1961 and worked here until he reached retirement age at the end of 1980.

As chairman of the "Quality Assurance" committee at the German Society for Surgery , Wolfgang Schega has laid the foundations for quality assurance in surgery and other medical subjects since 1976 .
