Paul Eduard von Bruns (born July 2, 1846 in Tübingen ; † June 2, 1916 there ) was a German surgeon and university professor .

Life

Paul's parents were the surgeon Viktor von Bruns and Caroline Crone (1823-1918). Paul married Marie Weizsäcker (1857–1939), a daughter of Karl Heinrich Weizsäcker, in 1877 . Her brother Karl von Weizsäcker - Richard von Weizsäcker's grandfather - became Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1906 . The von Bruns couple had two sons. Oskar Bruns (1878–1946), was professor of internal medicine in Königsberg; Viktor Bruns (1884–1943) was a teacher of international law in Berlin.

Paul von Bruns studied medicine at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and in 1867 became a corps bow bearer of the Suevia Tübingen . 1870 doctorate he became Dr. med. As his father's assistant, he completed his habilitation in 1875. He became associate professor in 1877 and in 1881 took over his father's chair . He was the personal physician of the King of Württemberg and chief physician-general of the Württemberg army . He died in World War I on June 2, 1916, a month before his 70th birthday.
