Carl Gussenbauer
Carl Ignatz Gussenbauer (also Karl Ignatz Gussenbauer ; born October 30, 1842 in Obervellach , † June 19, 1903 in Vienna ) was an Austrian surgeon .
Gussenbauer was a professor in Liège, Prague and Vienna. In 1888 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . From 1894 he was the successor of Theodor Billroth and headed the II. Surgical University Clinic. 1902/1903 he was rector of the University of Vienna .
Honors
In 1910 Gussenbauergasse in the 9th district of Alsergrund in Vienna was named after him, and in 1937 an eponymous in Klagenfurt.
Also in 1910 , a memorial created by the sculptor Josephine Christen was erected in Gussenbauer's birthplace, in Obervellach .
