Gert Carstensen

Gert Carstensen (born April 11, 1922 in Mellen / Westphalia; † January 13, 2008 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German surgeon and university professor .

Life

Gert Carstensen was born in Mellen / Westphalia in 1922 as the son of a surgeon. After attending the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück (1932 to 1940) and doing military service, he studied medicine in Gdansk, Göttingen and Heidelberg from 1945 to 1949. This was followed by his further training as a surgeon in Göttingen, from 1952 at the University of Madrid and with Werner Wachsmuth at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg (recognition as a specialist in surgery with the additional designation of vascular surgery ). Gert Carstensen completed his habilitation in 1966 in Würzburg in the field of surgery and was appointed private lecturer. From 1962 to 1987 he was chief physician at the surgical clinic of the Evangelical Hospital in Mülheim an der Ruhr. As such, he was co-editor of a work on the history of art and medicine on surgery. In 1966 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Düsseldorf . As a vascular surgeon, Gert Carstensen has gained recognition, particularly in the field of developing the restoration of the arterial flow path.

Gert Carstensen has specialized and committed himself in the field of medical claims law since the mid-1970s . Since it was founded in 1975 to 2003, he was an honorary member for the specialist field of surgery in the expert commission for medical treatment errors at the Medical Association of North Rhine-Westphalia.
