Werner Körte (doctor)
Friedrich Emil Werner Körte (born October 21, 1853 in Berlin ; † December 3, 1937 there ) was a German surgeon .
Life
Werner Körte was one of ten children of the doctor Friedrich Körte (1818–1914) and his wife Marie, b. Thaer (1832-1898). His siblings included the archaeologist Gustav Körte (1852-1917), the architect Friedrich Körte (1854-1934), the painter Martin Körte (1857-1929), the Königsberg mayor Siegfried Körte (1861-1919) and the classical philologist Alfred Körte (1866-1946).
After passing his high school diploma during the Franco-Prussian War in September 1870, he registered as a volunteer nurse in a typhus hospital near Metz , which was under the direction of his godfather Rudolf Virchow . He then studied 1871-1874 medicine at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin , the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University and the Kaiser-Wilhelm University of Strasbourg . He became a member of the Corps Teutonia Bonn. With a doctoral thesis with Friedrich Daniel von Recklinghausen , he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . At the Bethanien Hospital in Berlin he was trained as a surgeon by Robert Friedrich Wilms from 1877 to 1879 . While Wilms fell ill, he temporarily ran the hospital until April 1881. He then worked as a general practitioner until he was appointed director of the Am Urban municipal hospital in 1889 . He retired in 1924.
On May 1, 1882, Körte married Luise Auguste Delbrück (1861–1941), a daughter of the banker Adelbert Delbrück .
From 1899 to 1929 he was the honorary secretary of the German Society for Surgery . He became its president and honorary chairman. From 1914 to 1929 he was chairman of the Berlin Surgical Society , of which he was appointed honorary chairman.
He was buried in the family grave in the cemetery of the Dorotheenstadt and Friedrichswerder communities in Berlin-Mitte.
